Dances of India - Quilling Bharatnatyam Doll

 Hello Friends ,

I hope you all must have tried doing the Dandiya Couple doll . Please do share the pictures. In this post I am sharing how to make a Quilling Bharatnatyam Doll . This dance form is very famous in southern India. The costume itself is quite gracious and colourful.

I learnt doing this doll by watching Lakshmi 's ( Lakshmi quilling World ) Quilling doll . Thank you Lakshmi .

Let me show you in detail:

1. Face :

      Down Part :

  • Make a tight coil using 12 quilling strips ( peach colour ) . I have used 5 mm quilling strip.
  • Using your fingers push the coil and make a cup shape as shown in the picture.
     Upper Part :

  •   Make a tight coil using 12 quilling strips ( black colour ) . I have used 3 mm quilling strip.
  • Using your fingers push the coil and make a cup shape as shown in the picture.
Make the ears using half a Quilling strip ( peach colour ) . Make a D shape and attach it to the face.

  2.  Body ( Upper part ) :
  • Make a tight coil using 10 quilling strips ( pink colour ) . I have used 5 mm quilling strip.
  • Using your fingers push the coil and make a small cup shape as shown in the picture.
  • Make two such coils and attach them .

    Body ( Lower part ) :
  • Make a tight coil using single quilling strip ( pink colour ). I have used 5 mm quilling strip.
  • Make 4 such coils.
  • Make cone shapes as shown.
  • Bend the cone and attach them . Refer to the picture.
  • Wrap the legs with golden colour quilling strip.
  • Attach the legs to the upper body part.

3. Sleeve and Hands:
  • Make a tight coil using one quilling strip ( pink colour ) .Use 5 mm quillingstrip.
  • Make two such coils and give it a cone shape.
  • For the hands make a cone using one quilling strip ( peach colour ) . Here also use 5 mm strip.
  • For the palm make a loose coil using a single quilling strip ( peach colour ). Use 3 mm quilling strip. Bend the coil to form the shape of palm.
  • Attach the hands and sleeves together to the body.

4. Costume:
  • Take around 4 to 5  purple colour strips . You can select any colour.
  • Attach them one next to the other as shown.
  • Give a border using golden colour strip.
  • Attach it to the upper body part.
  • Make a fan shape ( refer picture ) using two colour strips . I have used a combination og pink and purple.
  • Attach it to the lower body part.
5. Hairs and hair style:
  • Wrap the complete portion of the back part of the head with black strips.
  • Take three quilling strips ( black colour ) of equal length.
  • Seal one end and weave into plates as shown.
  • Decorate with some chakri and kundans.
  • Attach the hairs to the head.
  • You can decorate the front part with some stone line and ball chain.
  • Make the mang tika using stone line.

Attach all the body parts and draw the facial parts to complete your beautiful Bharatnatyam Doll .
