Quilled Ganesha Idol |
Hello friends, today I have something very interesting to show you all. You all must be knowing about the god of wisdom and the remover of obstacles , of course I am talking about our very own Lord Ganesha. Imagine how exciting it will be when you make an idol of Lord Ganesha on your own. In this article I will show you how to make a paper quilled Ganesha. This Ganesha idol is very easy to make and looks cute as well. I made this quilled Ganesha at home on the occasion of Ganesha Chaturthi.
To make this you need
- Different colour quilling strips ( 5 mm and 10 mm )
- Quilling needle
- Fevicol for sticking
- Kundans and pearls for decoration.
We will make different parts seperately and join them together to make a beautiful Ganesha idol.
To make the Ganesha idol I have used 5 mm quilling strips of different colours.
Face :
Make a tight coil using by joining 5 quilling strips of yellow color as shown in picture Step 1 and apply fevicol on the top and bottom of the coil to make it stiff. Stick kundan for the eyes as shown in Step 2 , here I have used red color.

Join two quilling strips of light brown colour ( you can choose any colour ) . Make a tight coil, leave it loose and make a petal shape. Bend it more to get the curve of the trunk as shown in the picture Step 3
The magnificent ears :
Make a tear drop using one brown color quilling strip and stick on both the sides of the idol , The size of the ears should be in appropriate with size of the head you have done , for this idol I have used 1 strip of 5 mm . this will make the ears for the lord.

The beautiful crown:
Make a tight coil by joining 5 quilling strips of blue color. Push your finger into the base of the coil to give a half ball shape and press it in the center to make it look like a crown as shown in step 5 , apply fevicol inside to harden. After making the crown ,stick kundan to decorate. Once done attach it to the head as shown in step 6
Step 5 |
Step 6 |
Join 5 quilling strips of pink color and 5 quilling strips of white colour and stick in an alternate fashion. You can choose your own color combination. You can take more strips to make the body bigger . Make a tight coil , push inside the coil with your finger and make a cone shape. Stick kundan to decorate the body of the Ganesha .Please refer to the steps mentioned :
Arms :
( use 10 mm quilling strip )
Make a half moon shape using a single skin color quilling strip. (refer to picture shown in Step 8) Make two of that shape to make the arms and stick it to the body. Please note , next proceed to Step 9 wherein you stick the arms to the body. Press and hold it for a few seconds, this will make it intact. Make a loose coil for the hands and attach them to the arms.
Of course , not to forget, what is Ganesha's favorite ..... modak , ladoos etc. My mouth is watering !!
You can make those by forming a triangle or circle shape and stick it onto the hand. You can use your own imagination and apply it.

Complete Ganesha |
Your beautiful quilled Ganesha is ready for decoration. To make it look unique and more creative, you can decorate it by quilled lamps, fringed flowers, bells etc,
I will show you how to make Quilled lamps:
For the base , make a tight coil using a 5 mm quilling strip as shown in step1 and slightly push your finger on the base to make a small cone as shown in lamp step 2 below . Apply fevicol inside.
For the lamp top portion, stick 1/4 of length of a 5 mm quilting strip (preferably yellow /orange colour to resemble flame ) with three 10 mm blue /brown (in case you want it look like diya) color quilling strip. Start coiling from the 5 mm strip and make a tight coil as shown in Step 4. The next step is slightly tricky follow the steps correctly, as you make a cone, first push the base, once you have the cone, then with the needle push from cone peak center inwards till you to get the lamp shape ( Step 5 ). Join the base and and the top portions to complete the lamps
Lamp Step 5 |
Lamp Step 6 |
Make two lamps to position them on either side of the lord, make 4 to 5 small fringed flowers of different colors to offer to the lord Ganesha and lastly it will be good to stick all of these on cardboard base which you can be covered by glaze papers, If you want you can add bells, arati plate, anything which you like to offer to the lord and Your Quilled Ganesha will look like below.
