Dances of India - Quilling Kathakali

 Hello Friends,

Quilling Kathakali

Kathakali  is a major form of classical Indian dance popular in  southwestern region of Kerala. This is one more addition to my Dances of India Theme. It is a Quilling Kathakali 3D doll. The most challenging part was the costume of the doll. The lower part is quite big and you need to roll lot of strips for that.

For the  major structure of the doll ,  you can refer to my earlier posts. Let me brief some of the steps:

1. Face:

  • Since the Kathakali Face is green in colour , I have tried to do it in the same way.
  • Make a tight coil using 12 quilling strips ( green colour ). Use 5 mm quilling strips.

  •   Make a tight coil using 12 quilling strips ( black colour ). Use 5 mm quilling strips.
  • Make a dome shape as shown . Apply fevicol and allow it to dry.
  • Attach both the coils.

  • 2. Body :

    • For the upper part make a tight coil using 14 strips( peach colour ) . I have used 20 mm quilling strips. I have wrapped red colour quilling strips around the upper body part.
    • For the lower part , make a tight coil using 70 quilling strips ( white colour ). Use 5 mm strips. Make a big dome shape as shown.
    • Attach the upper and lower parts.

    3. Crown :

    • For making the crown , refer to the pictures below:
I have decorated the crown with some kundans and beads.

Refer below for the stepwise picture:

Attach the sleeve and hands to complete the doll. Draw the facial features and decorate the doll with some stone line and kundans.
    I hope you liked it.

    Quilling Human Figurine

     Hello friends,

This is my one of my favourite Quilling art works. I enjoyed  a lot making this. I tried for the first time to make a human figurine in quilling. I had a plan to do this long back but did not have enough confidence. I thought to give it a try.

I have made human figurine of my daughters. I hope I have done justice to it. My daughters loved it and were very happy too.

    Waiting to do more .......
