Quilling Santa Claus



Hello Friends ,

    Wishing all my friends a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!!
  Santa Claus is a legendary figure originating in Western Christian culture who is said to bring gifts to the homes of children on Christmas Eve (24 December). All children just love Santa. 

Now lets all learn how to make a Quilling Santa Claus doll. 
I have used mainly two color quilling papers : red and white

Head :
  I have made two tight coils using skin color quilling paper, each tight coil using 5 quilling strips. Attach both the coils. On one tight coil make the facial expressions. 

Cap:
   Make a cone using 5 red color quilling strips of 5 mm size. At the end of the cone put a white pearl.

Body ( coat  ):
   Make a cone using 12 red color quilling strips of 7 mm size. Put the buttons on the coat using pearls. 

Legs and shoes:
     Make three tight coils using 3 quilling strips each ( red color ).
Make a tear drop coil using 5 mm black color quilling strip.  

Attach all the body parts to complete the doll.

Quilling Placard


Hi friends ,

I have tried something very unique and creative in this post. Imagine writing yours or your loved ones name in Quilling. Wow !!!! sounds great Isn't it. You can quill the name , frame it and gift to your loved ones. It is a Quilling Placard.

The materials used for this are :

  • White Kg cardboard of desired size
  • 3 mm quilling strips of different colours
  • Fevicol
  • Pollens for decoration
The detailed description is shown below:
  • First you need to write down the desired name ( letters ) on the cardboard with a pencil lightly.
  • Then we need to give the outline of the letters by placing the quilling strips in a vertical  manner.  Take care as to stick the strip on the length side so as to get embossed look and not flat.
  • Once the outline is ready , we have to fill the letters with different quilling shapes. 
  • For each letter I have used different colours. 
  • After completing all the letters , you can decorate the placard using some colourfull pollens. 
Your beautiful Quilling Placard is ready. I really enjoyed a lot doing this unique piece of art.
I made this Quilling Placard on my Wedding Anniversary to gift to my Husband.

Quilling Rangoli ( Mandala )





Hello friends ,

          Rangoli is an art, origin in India in which patterns are created on the floor  using materials such as coloured rice, coloured rangoli powder or flower petals. It is usually made during festivals.
Rangoli designs can be simple geometric shapes, deity impressions, or flower and petal shapes.
I have made a beautiful Rangoli using Quilling. I have made the design on a white  Kg cardboard.
The concept I have used here is Astha Ganapathi (Eight Ganesha ) design. 
In the center of the rangoli , I have made a design using the basic quilling shapes. I have used multi colour quilling strips. 
The rest part of the rangoli is covered with the eight Ganeshas ( different colours ). This has also been done using quilling.
Plz note: I have used only 5 mm quilling strips to complete the rangoli.



This Quilling rangoli I made on the occassion of Ganesha Chaturthi. You can use your own creativity and  make your own designs and patterns. Make your own quilling rangoli and please dont forget to share with me.

Quilling Haldi Kumkum Box



Hello friends,

In this post I am showing you something which is very unique and looks just beautiful. As you all must be aware of the traditional kumkum box kept in every house. This  beautiful Haldi Kumkum box which I am showing is made of Quilling. You can make one for your house and use it. 

The details are shown below :
  • For the base I have taken a used CD and wrapped a shinning paper around it. You can also decorate the CD with colourful kundans.
  • For the kumkum box I have used red colour quilling paper of 5 mm dimension.
  • For the haldi box I have used yellow colour quilling paper of 5 mm dimension.
Kumkum Box ( Step 1 - 4 ):
  • Make a tight coil using 20 quilling strips.
  • Make a cone shape.
  • Make another cone shape ( little smaller than the first one).
  • Apply fevicol on both sides of the cone.
  • Keep it for dry.
  • The top and the bottom part of the box is ready.
  • Decorate the box with colourful stones and kundans.

Repeat the same for the Haldi box.



Once done you need to stick both the boxes on the CD. The quilling Haldi Kumkum box is ready.



I have made a few boxes for gifting for my friends and loved ones. You can make only the bowl and stick it on the CD and decorate it.

Quilling Durga



  Hi friends,


     Happy Navarathri to all.  Durga is a popular form of Hindu goddess. She is the warrior and a fierce form of the protective mother goddess. For details please click the link Durga.
As Navaratri / Dussehra festival has started, I have tried to attempt something unique. I hope you all like it.
I have made a Goddess Durga using quilling.

For this you need:
  • Kg cardboard of desired size
  • Quilling strips of 3 mm dimension ( different colours ).
  • Fevicol
The detailed description is explained below :
  • First you need to draw the outline of the Goddess on a Kg cardboard.
  • Give the outline of the drawing using black colour quilling strip. Take care as to stick the strip on the length side so as to get embossed look and not flat.
  • Then you need to fill the drawing with the basic quilling shapes using different colour quilling strips. 
  • For the eyes and eyebrows I have used black colour quilling strip.
  • For the crown , I have made tight coils of different colours.
  • For the necklace and ears , I have made loose coils of different colours.
Stick all the parts and the quilling Durga is finished. You can also decorate the Goddess with some kundans.


Frame your Goddess and decorate you wall with this beautiful piece of art.

Quilling Door Hanging



Hi friends ,

    I have tried to make something unique using quilling. I have made a quilling door hanging using CDs. I am sure each one of you must be having CDs which are unused. You can use those CDs and make a beautiful door hanging or wall hanging.
For this quilling door hanging , I have used different colours 3 mm quilling strips.
  • Take an unused CD.
  • Draw the design you wish to make
  • Make different shapes using quilling
  • Stick them on the CD
I have used six CDs to complete the door hanging.

After decorating all the CDs with the quilling designs, you can stick it to a border and the door hanging is ready.

Silk Thread Necklace



  



Hi friends ,

After making the beautiful silk thread bangles , jhumkas and different earrings, lets us learn how to make a Silk thread necklace. You can use single colour or multiple colours to make your necklace. One I have made with gold colour , other I have made with two colours ( blue and gold ).




To make a silk thread necklace you need the following materials:

  • Silk Thread ( Colour of your choice )
  • Plastic beads ( Size of your choice )

  •  Gear wire

  • Necklace thread

  • Gold beads ( of desired size )
The steps are explained below:
  •   Wrap the  silk thread to the plastic beads .I have wrapped eight beads of blue colour. You can wrap it according to your choice.
  • Take the gear wire and   string the wrapped beads and the gold beads in an alternate fashion.
  • Lock the necklace with a gear lock.
  • Attach the necklace thread to complete the necklace.
You can also put a small jhumka cap in between to give a beautiful look.
The complete silk thread necklace is ready to wear . You can wear it on any occassion to add grace to your outfit.

Silk Thread Rakhi


 Hi friends ,

                  As you all know Rakhi ( Raksha bandhan ) is celeberated on 7th August. I have made a special Silk Thread Rakhi for my dearest brother.

  • Make a hollow coil of desired size using quilling.
  • Wrap the silk thread around the coil. I have used blue colour silk thread. 
  • After complete wrapping , decorate the coil using stone line and kundans.
  • Weave into plaits using three colour silk threads.
  • Stick the thread to the coil.
  • The complete Rakhi is ready.
A handmade Rakhi has a spacial place in yours brothers heart.
Make your own Rakhi and have a great Raksha Bandhan festival.

Temple jewellery




Hi friends,

As you all know that Varamahalakshmi festival is round the corner , I have made a necklace for the lakshmi goddess. For this I have used a velvet cloth.
I have used red colour cloth. You can use any colour of your choice.
Then make an outline of the necklace you wish to make.
Then decorate using:
  • Stone line (small )
  • Stone line ( big )
  • Pearl line ( small )
  • Pearl line ( big )
  • Red stone line ( small )
  • Red kundans 
Stick these decorative lines on the drawing made. Give the jewellery a finishing touch by sealing the edges of the velvet cloth. Tie the necklace thread to the jewellery.


And your beautiful jewellery is ready. Hope you like this creativity of mine.

Silk Thread danglers



Hi friends,

In this post I am showing you how to make another type of silk thread earrings. These are called silk thread danglers. For this you need to take plastic beads. These are shown below:



The steps are described below:
  • Take a single bead .
  • Wrap the silk thread ( colour of your choice ) around the bead.
  • Insert a head pin from downward to upward direction.
  • Put a small jhumka cap.
  • Attach the jumpring and earring hook .
This completes the silk thread dangler. These earrings can be worn with traditional and western outfit. Make these beautiful danglers and dress up yourself in an elegant way. Please share your views.

Silk thread Chandabali earrings

 Hello friends,

          This is  a new type of earrings using silk thread. This design looks completely unique and very beautiful. This is a Chandabali Silk Thread earrings. To make this earrings you need to use the chandabali base and wrap the silk thread of your colour choice.

The steps are shown below:
  • Take a chandabali base of the desired shape.
  • Wrap the silk thread onto the chandabali base in the same fashion you wrap the jhumka mould. 
  • Make a earring stud using quilling .
  • Decorate the stud with pearls and stones.
  • Also decorate the chandabali with ball chain and pearl/stone line.
  • Your chandabali silk thread earrings are ready.
You can make your colour choice earrings to match your outfit.
The chandabali earrings goes very well with traditional outfits.

Silk Thread Elephant Bangles





Hi Friends ,

      These are new  type of bangles, which are the latest in the fashion trend. These bangles have an elephant head in metal clasped to the plastic bangle, which looks like two elephant heads facing each other. To make a silk bangle,  you need to wrap the silk thread of your colour choice on these bangles and decorate it with stone chains, gold balls as you wish as per the design of your choice .

The plastic elephant bangle is shown below:


I have used green colour silk thread for my bangles and once wrapping of the silk thread is complete, I have used white stone lines for decoration to give the additional pleasing look like shown below.

Finally the wrapped silk thread elephant bangle should look like the picture below

Silk Thread Kada Bangles



Hello friends ,

These are a new type of bangles which we call as Silk thread Kada Bangles. These bangles are broad in size. It looks more beautiful when worn single.
I have made two different varieties of Kada bangles. One is Blue colour and other is Maroon colour.
You need to first take a plastic kada bangle and then wrap the silk thread around it. You can use any colour of your choice to match your outfit.

1. Blue Colour:


Wrap the plastic bangle with blue colour silk thread. Decorate the bangle using blue kundans , stone line and Gold chain.

2. Maroon Colour:



Wrap the plastic bangle with maroon colour silk thread. Decorate the bangle using maroon kundans , stone line and Gold chain.
Make your own silk thread bangle , wear it and enjoy !!!!

I hope you all must have tried the beautiful silk thread jhumkas amd enjoyed doing it. Here I am showing you all something very unique and beautiful. These are Silk Thread Bangles. 

The steps are explained below ( Step 1 - 4 ):
  • Take a plain plastic bangle of the desired size.
  • Start wrapping the silk thread ( colour of your choice ) around the complete bangle.
  • Decorate the bangle using Stone line , ball chain and kundans.

          Once you have wrapped the complete bangle with the silk thread you can decorate it using colourful kundans , stone and pearl lines .
These silk thread bangles looks very elegant when worn with the matching outfit. You can wear them on any occassion. I hope you liked it.

Quilling keychain - Hut

 Hi friends ,

This is another type of quilling key chain. As the name suggests it is in the shape of a hut.
  
Hut key chain:  This is divided into two parts :

  Upper part -
  • Make a tight coil using 6 quilling strips of 3 mm dimension. I have used purple colour . You can use any colour of your choice. 
  • Make a cone shape using the jhumka mould.
  • Apply fevicol on the inner and outer parts of the coil.
     
  Lower part -
  • Make a tight coil using 3 quilling strips of 3mm dimension. Pick any colour of your choice. I have used light yellow colour.
  • Make three such coils and attach one above the other.
Attach the lower part with the upper part. Insert a head pin from the bottom till the top of the hut. Make a small loop.
Insert the key chain in the loop.
You can decorate the quilling hut with door and window.
Your quilling hut key chain is ready. Isn't it easy?

Quilling Key chain - Minion



Hello friends ,

This a a very simple and unique key chain which is made using Quilling. Kids are very fond of key chains and they love keeping it. Here I am showing you to how to make a Minion key chain.


 Minion key chain: This key chain was made by my daughter as a gift to her father on Fathers Day .
Upper part -
  •   Make a tight coil using 5 quilling strips ( yellow colour) of 5 mm dimension. 
  • Make four such coils and attach them one above the other.
Lower part - 
  •   Make a tight coil using 5 quilling strips ( blue colour) of 5 mm dimension. 
  •   Make two such coils and attach them one above the other.
Legs -
          Make  a tight coil using half a strip of blue colour. Make two such coils for each leg. And attach them one above the other.

Shoes -
         Make a tear drop using half a strip( 3 mm ) of black colour. Attach it to the legs.

Attach all the body parts. Stick the goggly eyes. Make a hollow coil using silver colour 3 mm quilling strip. Stick it upon the googly eyes. This will act as a spectacles for the Minion.

 Attach the key chain and your minion key chain is ready.

Silk Thread Jhumkas ( Dual colour )

I hope you have tried my new creation of silk thread jhumka. The one I did in my previous post was using single colour. Here I am showing a different type of silk thread jhumka using two colours.  The method of wrapping the silk thread is the same , you only need to wrap two colours in an alternate pattern.
  • The first one I have done using blue and gold colour silk threads.
  • The second one I have done using pink and black colour silk threads.

Silk Thread Jhumkas

 
Hi friends ,

         Lets explore into a new type of art work which is known as Silk thread art. Silk thread is a unique handmade art specially used for making jewellery. Silk thread can be used to make jhumkas , earrings , bangles , necklace , clips and many more. In this post I am showing you how to make silk thread jhumka with an antique stud.
There are a wide range of colours available in silk thread. You can pick up any colour of your choice to match your outfit.
The materials required to make silk thread jhumka are :
  • Different colours silk thread
  • Antique studs
  • Fabric glue
  • Jhumka mould
  • Stud mould
  • Eye pin
  • Antique ball 
  • Stone line 
  • Ball chain ( gold )


The steps are explained below:
  • Take the jhumka mould ( available in different sizes ).
  • Wrap the silk thread around the jhumka mould.
  • Attach the antique stud with the jhumka using the eye pin.
  • Decorate the jhumka with stone line.

Quilling Doll House



Hi friends ,

In this post I am showing you something very unique and different. I have made a doll house using quilling. This house includes a small house , a car , some trees , bushes , flower pots , a water pond and lot more. I will explain the steps in detail..


  • First you need to take a thick cardboard for the base. 
  • Cut it into a square / rectangle shape as per your requirement.
  • Using ice cream sticks you can make the fence for the house.
House :
  • Make four coils using  20 skin colour 10 mm quilling strips.
  • Attach them one above the other. 
  • For the roof , make a cone using 10 blue colour 5 mm quilling strips.
  • Attach the roof to the base of the house.
  • Make the door and the window .
  • Decorate the house as per your choice. 

Pond :
  • Make a border using blue colour crimped 5 mm quilling strip.
  • Cut small strips and stick them onto the pond.
Tree :

  • Make a tree trunk  by making a long cone using 2 brown colour 10 mm quilling strips.
  • Make the leaves by making green colour cresent shape coils.
  • Attach the leaves to the tree trunk.
  • Make two flower pots.

 Car :
  • Make a loose square coil using one red colour 5 mm quilling strip.
  • Make one more loose square coil using two red colour 5 mm quilling strips. Attach both the coils.
  • Make the wheels by making tight coils using one black colour 5 mm quilling strip.

Bushes :
    • Make fringed flowers using one green colour 10 mm quilling strips.
    • Make as many you want to decorate the garden.
    Once you make all these , you can stick them onto the cardboard and complete your house. And of course the house is incomplete without the doll. Place the doll near the house and your quilling doll house is ready.

    Quilling hair clips


     Hi friends,

    In this post I am showing you some beautiful variety of quilling hair clips which I made for my daughter. You can make it using any colour to match your outfit. It is also very simple and easy to make these quilling hair clips.
    You need to take a plain clip and then decorate it using quilling flowers / designs.

    Two clips I have attached a 3d quilling flower ( Clip No 1 and No 5 )



    For another clip I have attached a fringed flower ( Clip No 2 )

     For other two I have attached a quilling shape flower ( Clip No 3 and 4 )



    You can also decorate the hair clip using colourful beads or pearls.

    Quilling sunflower




    Hi friends ,

            Sunflower as you all know is a very beautiful flower .It always turns towards the sun. This flower is a combination of  brown and yellow colour. Today we are going to make a sunflower out of quilling .

    For the center part I have used brown colour 10 mm Quilling strip.
    •  Attach two fringed quilling strips.
    • Make a tight coil.
    • Open the fringes.
    For the petals , I have used 3 mm yellow colour quilling strips.
    • Attach three quilling strips and make a loose coil.
    • Give it a shape of marquise.
    • Start attaching the petals to the center part.
    • Make three such layers to complete the sunflower.
    • You can vary the size of the petals according to your choice .
    For the leaves , I have used green colour handmade paper

    • Cut the paper into the leaf shape.
    • Roll the handmade paper onto a small stick / straw for the stem
    • Make two or three leaves and stick in to the stem.
    • Stick the stem to the flower.
    Once your sunflower is ready , you can stick it on a chart paper and use it as a wall hanging to decorate your house.  You can also decorate your flower vase.
