Dear Friends,

wedding is a beautiful relationship where two people are united . Wedding traditions and customs vary greatly between cultures, ethnic groups, religions, countries, and social classes. I have taken wedding as my concept and made two wedding dolls ( Bride and Bridegroom ) using quilling .
Let me explain the steps.

Bride :

  • Head and Face :

Make a tight coil using 6 skin color quilling strips (  5 mm ). Make another tight coil using 6 black colour  quilling strips (  5 mm ). Attach the two coils and draw the facial attributes.

  • Hairs :
Take black colour wool . Take a group of around 20 strands . Stick them to the black part of the head . Weave into plaits to the desired length. Attach a gold ribbon to the hairs .
  • Neck :
Make a tight coil using 3 skin colour quilling strips ( 5 mm ) .
  • Body ( Upper part /Blouse  ) :
  • For the upper part of the dolls body I have used red color , 7 mm quilling strip.
  • First make a tight coil by attaching 20 quilling strips .
  • Make one more coil of the same dimension.
  • Make a small cone and attach both of them in the pattern shown in the picture.

  • Sleeve  :

For the sleeve , I have used 5mm red color quilling strip. I have used two quilling strips for each sleeve. Make a small cone and attach it to the body.

  • Body Lower part :

For the lower part of the body , I have attached 40 quilling strips of 10 mm dimension. I have used red colour, You can use any color of your choice. Make a tight coil and and make a big cone .

Attach the upper part and the lower part of the doll . Then attach it to the head.

  • Hands :
Make a cone using 2 skin color quilling strips ( 5 mm ). Bend the cone to complete the hands. Make two such cones.
  • Saree :
I have used a white and red border for the saree . Wrap the border in a beautiful fashion to give it a saree look .
Once finished , decorate the doll with bangles and necklace. You can do this using stone line and gold chain.
Draw the facial attributes to complete the doll .

     Bridegroom :

    Quilling Goddess Saraswati

    Hello  Friends,

Goddess Saraswati  is one of the Hindu goddesses, she is the custodian of knowledge and wisdom and is worshiped by all students across age  for her divine grace so that acquires knowledge, music, art and wisdom. She is the consortium of Lord Brahma , the creator of the universe. During Navarathri , on the fifth day ,a special pooja is performed for the goddess Saraswati. In homes on this day we worship all the artifacts / sources of knowledge as they represent the goddess .

I have crafted the Goddess Saraswati using quilling .

To start with ,make a rough outline or take a print out of the Goddess. The whole picture is crafted using 3mm quilling strips . Goddess Saraswathi is mainly associated with white color for her dress, vehicle (swan/hamsa), seat (lotus) as the white color signifies purity and knowledge.

    • Make an outline of the desired shape by placing the quilling strip vertically along the border/outline of the drawing
    • For crafting the lotus petals . use  3mm white strips and make a loose coil .Press the coil to fill in the shape of the petals of the lotus.
    • For the crown , decorate using pearl and stone lines ( red , green , white ).
    • Design the saree using white colour quilling strips. I have made use of comb flowers closely sticking  them so that they look like saree . Make the border using tight coils ( gold and red colours ). Glue the  ball chain to the edge of the saree.
    • Design the  blouse by making small tight coils ( red and gold colour ). Place the tight coils to fill up the blouse space.
    • For the hands use skin colour quilling strips :
Make marquise shapes for the fingers ( using 1/4 th strip each ).
Make a loose coil to fit inside the shape of the hand and palm .
    • For the legs use skin colour quilling strips:
Make marquise shapes for the fingers ( using 1/4 th strip each ).
Make a loose coil to fit inside the shape of the feet.
    • For the Face use skin colour quilling strips:
Make a tight coil to fit the shape. Make a cutout of the face using an ohp        sheet.Draw the facial attributes on an ohp sheet. Glue the sheet onto the tight coil. Make the hairs using black colour quilling strips ( marquise shape ).
    • For the Veena , I have used purple , black and gold colour quilling strips .
For the base make 5 comb shapes ( purple colour ) . Make around 15 tight coils ( gold colour ) to complete the base. Make rectangle shapes using black and gold colour ( half strip ). Place them in an alternate fashion. Decorate the Veena using ball chain and stone line. Attach the strings on the veena.
    • Swan is made using white and grey clour shades marquise shapes.
Make marquise shapes using half quilling strips ( white and grey colour ) . Arrange and glue them in the desired shape. Make the beak using red colour quilling strip. Give it a pointed rectangle shape .
